The color becomes darker after exposure to light, such as significant discoloration, and must be re-distilled. Weakly basic, neutral to phenolphthalein, soluble salts formed with strong acids. Can be miscible with alcohol, ether and carbon disulfide, soluble in hot water, difficult to dissolve in cold water, can dissolve sulfur, phosphorus and arsenic trioxide. Moderately toxic, median lethal dose (rats, orally)460mg/kg.
