Pyridine, an organic compound with the formula C5H5N, is a six-membered heterocyclic compound containing one nitrogen heteratom. It can be seen as a compound in which one of the benzene molecules (CH) is replaced by N, so it is also called nitrobenzene, colorless or slightly yellow liquid, and has a foul odor. Pyridine and its homologues are found in bone tar, coal tar, gas, shale oil, and petroleum. Pyridine is used industrially as a denaturant, dye aid, and raw material for the synthesis of a range of products, including pharmaceuticals, disinfectants, dyes, etc.
